Best Stand Mixers for Baking

Mixer Whisk Attachment with Meringue

I often get asked about my go-to baking equipment and one of the things people ask the most is what I think is the best stand mixer. A good mixer is the workhorse of a baker’s kitchen—it does so much of the work for you. In fact, I have three!

A good stand mixer comes in handy when you need to whip eggs for seven minutes for your Diva Cake, it makes kneading cinnamon roll, pizza, or bread dough a breeze, and makes creamy, glossy buttercream. For all these reasons and more, it’s one of the top three items in my kitchen. Below I share about the three stand mixers I have, so you can choose the best stand mixer for you!

Best Stand Mixer

KitchenAid Stand Mixer

My KitchenAid Stand Mixer is 35 years old and it is indeed a total rock star workhorse. I love it. This is the piece of equipment that has become synonymous with baking, and if you’re lucky there may be a KitchenAid in your family that has been passed down over the years. If not, you can start the tradition yourself, and choose your favorite color.  If you’re not ready to commit to an expensive option, this is a decent hand mixer. I also have the following attachments for my KitchenAid mixer:

Wolf Gourmet Stand Mixer

My Wolf Stand Mixer is big and it’s great for big batches. This industrial option is the powerhouse of stand mixers, so if you’re in the market for a high-end machine that is great for large bakes, this is it. The price is high to match it’s performance, but it’s worth it for someone like me who is always baking. If you’ve had mixers before and are looking to upgrade to the biggest, most powerful option, this is the way to go.

Breville the Bakery Chef Mixer

I love my Breville the Bakery Chef stand mixer because of its glass bowl. This mixer is more affordable than the other two, and has the features you’ll need in a mixer. It also comes with the necessary attachments and accessories, including a scraper with a flexible edge, which comes in handy for scraping the sides of the bowl. The glass bowl is a great design for anyone just starting out or those who like to easily see everything in action as they are mixing. Plus, it makes for some great photos with its elegant look.

  1. What brand is the big mixing bowl Zoe’s is using. It’s white with a brown print, she used it to mix her carrot cake on 9/16/23.

    1. Hi Barbara, a hand mixer is not recommended to make bread dough. If you’d prefer not to use a stand mixer, you could check out Zoë’s Bread in 5 book series where all you need is a Danish dough whisk to make amazing bread. I hope this helps!

  2. My Kitchen Aid is red… and I like it a lot ( even though it is heavy and I am “older”
But, still wish I could replace my Krups. The bowl swirled as the beaters rotated…really mixed things up. But, with four kiddos and over 20 years, the stand is gone. BUT, I still have the mixer and come December we use all the beaters in the house.
By the way, I would love to taste most of your creations, even though they look too pretty to touch.
Part of my heart is in Minneapolis ( Grandchildren ) After reading some of your blog I doubt that I would find you there, but I can find your cookbook, and that is what I am going to do.
Aebleskivers ( Ebelskivers on my Danish Brother – in-law’s recipe ) are part of our family vacation breakfasts.
And that is more than you want to know about most of your followers.
    Just me, Kathy
